SWAKOPMUND

NAMIBIA

3 - 5 OCTOBER

SWAKOPMUND
Palm-lined streets, seaside promenades, fine accommodation, a pleasant summer climate and decent beaches. Welcome to Swakopmund – Namibia’s premier holiday resort!

A quaint German harbour resort with mild temperatures and negligible rainfall, Swakopmund generally enjoys grit in the oyster. When an easterly wind blows, the town gets a good sand-blasting, and almost perpetual drizzle. The fog rolls up to 30km inland and provides moisture for desert-dwelling plants and animals, including 80 species of lichen.

Swakopmund feels overwhelmingly Germanic – indeed, it has Germany – but for visitors, it’s Namibia’s adrenalin capital, and offers a wide range of exciting activities from sand boarding and quad-biking to skydiving and camel riding.

WEATHER

As Namibia, being a typical semi-desert, the climate varies daily, with hot days and cool nights, it is recommended that you pack both summer clothing, as well something warm for the evenings. It is advisable to pack a sweater and/or jacket as it becomes quite cool in the evenings and early mornings. Locals prefer dressing in layers with a shirt, light jersey and fleece top over the lot as it allows one to peel off or add as the day progresses. The weather is very unpredictable, so ensure you never go about without something warm.
October average low – 12° Celcius
October average high – 18° Celcius
